If real estate experts have one golden rule it is: location, location, location. This old but undeniable truism also applies to the Costa del Sol, where it can be said to translate as: Marbella, Estepona, Benahavis.
These three municipal areas are the most hotly desired when it comes to real estate on the Costa del Sol, and as such represent the core of its property market – especially in the upper and holiday home segments.

From its position on the foothills of the iconic La Concha Mountain, Sierra Blanca is a top-end residential area of large villas with commanding views over Marbella and the coastline. A similar country club environment can be enjoyed within the select gated communities on the lower reaches of the Ronda road, situated amid the stunning natural scenery and vistas within the Benahavis municipal area. Though it falls under a charming mountain village just seven kilometres from the coast, this is the largest Ayuntamiento, or town hall in the region, including such sought-after residential areas as El Madroñal and La Zagaleta – one of Europe’s most exclusive gated estates. The latter comes complete with its own golf courses, sports club and old hunting grounds where the animals are now protected, while also within Benahavis’ municipal boundaries are such popular golf-side areas as Los Arqueros and El Paraíso.
Head a little further west, just past the villas of Guadalmina and the up-and-coming coastal part of San Pedro Alcántara, and you come to the residential zones of Estepona, which include luxury modern seaside properties on the New Golden Mile, apartments overlooking the lively Estepona marina and rustic properties in the valleys bordering the town.
